Job Description:
Our Ottawa based government client is seeking an Application Software Architect for an 80 day contract period (year one) and 2 additional 80 day contract periods for year two and three. Candidates must possess Enhanced Security Clearance.

Background:
Recently, the Public Service Commission (PSC) started the implementation of an Enterprise Architecture Program. It intends to develop and maintain a clear, precise and analyzable description of the PSC business and technology infrastructure. The primary objective of this program of work is to provide PSC with the tools to better align investments in IT and other areas with the mandates and strategic priorities for the commission.

Tasks:
a) Document and/or assist in the documentation of the “As-Is” application architecture;
b) Develop and/or assist in the development and documentation of the “To-Be” application architecture;
c) Develop and/or assist in the development and documentation of migration plans to go from the “As-Is” to the ‘To-Be” application architecture;
d) Align and/or assist in the alignment of the application architecture with the architecture from the other domains;
e) Document and/or assist in the documentation of application architecture requirements;
f) Develop and/or assist in the development of application architecture standards and guidelines, including modelling standards and conventions;
g) Assist in the promotion and communication of the application architecture;
h) Document the operating processes related to application architecture development and documentation;
i) Train and transfer knowledge regarding architecture work and products to PSC’s employees;
j) Provide expert advice and mentoring as required;
k) Create presentations on the application architecture and present them to various stakeholders;
l) Provide bi-weekly status reports;
m) List all updates or changes made to deliverables; and
n Provide final documents/reports in the agreed electronic format(s).

The ideal candidate will have::
  • performed work that is relevant to the Application Architecture category on at least two (2) different projects of two (2) months or more within the last five (5) years.
  • a minimum of 3 years experience, within the last 10 years, developing and documenting the current (as-is) and target (to-be) application architecture; the migration plans from the current to the target application architecture; and the alignment of the elements within the architecture domain
  • demonstrated experience in the capture, documentation and prioritization of application architecture requirements
  • demonstrated experience in the development, recommendation and implementation of application architecture standards and/or guidelines, including modelling standards and conventions
  • demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of Java software architecture.
  • demonstrated experience in communicating about application architecture, including presentations to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • demonstrated experience in the service oriented architecture (SOA).
  • demonstrated experience in the development, documentation and implementation of operating processes for application architecture services.
  • demonstrated experience reviewing Java application code in the context of application architecture review
